What would be the experimental and control variable, independent and dependent variable in a experiment?

what would be the experimental variable, control variable, independent varrible and dependent variable as in a experiment where the scientific method is used??|||It depends on your experiment, but lets pretend you are experimenting on plants. Your hypothesis is ... If houseplants are given caffeinated water, then they will grow taller than the control.

The experimental group would be the group that you gave caffeine to (because you manipulated - or experimented - on that group)

The control group would be the group in the experiment that you did not give caffeine to - the group that you are going to use as the comparison.

The independent variable is the caffeine (the "if" part of the hypothesis)

The dependent variable is the taller growth of the plant (the "then" part of the hypothesis).

The independent variable is always what YOU (caffeine) did to the experiment.

The dependent variable is what HAPPENED (grow) because of the independent variable.
