Which is the dependent and which is the control variable?

Evy is writing his final essay for English class. The longer the test, the more paper he uses.

Please explain what is the dependent variable and control variable is and if you could, please explain why. Thank you so much!|||The independent variable is the length of the test, and the dependent variable is the amount of paper he uses.

The teacher can, at will, change the length of the test for no reason. Because he is at liberty to change the length without doing anything else, this is the INDEPENDENT variable.

The amount of paper Evy uses, however, DEPENDS directly on the length of the test; if it's longer, he uses more; if it's shorter, he uses less. The amount of paper changes with the length of the test, and is therefore DEPENDENT on the length of it.

Just remember that dependent is the one that changes as the result of something else. I hope I helped answer your question, but I am absolutely baffled as to why this question was under the geography section... o_O.

Good luck! :)
